Hey, your name is Shoanna. Who is Scarlett Dalila and why does she feel better?
Yes, my name is Shoanna Catherina. Scarlett Dalila was the name of my Cabbage Patch Kid. I absolutely loved the name and always wanted to have a real Scarlett Dalila. Instead, I have a Jackson Edward and a Vivian Louise. That’s just who they were. So when looking for a name for my shop, I remembered a name that I loved but hadn’t used yet. Scarlett Dalila Felt Better was born……again. She feels better because everyone feels better when wearing a crown! Don’t you? Plus it was a play on the word felt, since the crowns and bags are made of felt. But you probably already figured that part out. I still have the original Scarlett Dalila. She is as cute as ever. (Thanks mom for saving all the good stuff!)
Why the skull and crossbones? And are those flowers growing around the bones?
I have always been fascinated with skull and crossbones. Perhaps I was also a pirate in a previous life. Sometimes knitting and felt can be thought of as grandma-y-ish. I wanted to make my stuff a little edgy. Cool. Something a little hipster would want to wear. So to balance out the grandma-y, I added the skull and crossbones. And yes those are flowers growing around the bones. Because the skull and crossbones may be thought of as a little dark by some, I wanted to lighten it up a bit. Add a soft side to the dark edginess. I want to be sweet and spicy all at the same time. It also shows that out of darkness there can be light. Flowers need light. So turn on the light.
You explained Scarlett Dalila, but what about Shoanna? What kind of name is that?
An interesting question. Coming from parents named Jack and Anita, you might think I would be a Caroline or a Kate. My grammas’ names were Marjorie and Louise. Their mom’s were Rosa and Lucille. I could go on and on and on and on down the line and not find another Shoanna. They say they found my name in a newspaper. Dr. Christiaan Barnard, who performed the first successful human-to-human heart transplant, was having an affair with a beautiful English woman named Shoanna. Back in the 70’s that made big news I guess, hence the newspaper account. (An aside….Seriously people, you need to stop having affairs.) I digress, but worth mentioning. They say they just loved the name. Didn’t rip out the newspaper clipping. Interesting. Therefore, couldn’t add it to my baby book. Too bad. Although it is documented that he had several affairs in his lifetime, I haven’t been able to confirm the one with a lovely Shoanna. My sister’s name is Jane. Just kidding. It’s Tennell. So it all fits nicely together.
It wasn’t until facebook that I had proof that Shoanna is a real name. As of today, there are over 75 people registered with their first name as Shoanna! I actually stopped counting at 76! And to think, I thought I was the only one all these many years. And get this, there is a barista at the local Starbucks who swears her best friend is named Shoanna! Shoanna! I nearly fell over when she told me. Literally. So close, but yet so far away. I want to meet her. I want to start a facebook group of people named Shoanna. So, if your name is Shoanna, please drop me a line. We have so much about which to talk, my kindred soul.
