ADDENDUM to The Real Legends of the Fall

Goodbye summer, hello Caramel Apple Sugar Babies!  Reason #4 to jump into autumn.  They are indescribably delicious.  I’ve exhausted the supply at my local Old Navy (weird, I know.)  and haven’t been able to find them anywhere else.  So when this box is gone, I’ll be screaming for warmer weather.  Again.

The Real Legends of the Fall

I’ve succumbed to autumn.  I resisted.  I screamed.  I cried.  I put on a sweater.  Mother Nature cannot be stopped.  I long for a kinder climate.  I’m trying to find some joy in this, focusing on the silver linings in the cold-weather clouds.  I’ve come up with a few legends of the fall:

no mosquitos,

pumpkin beer with a carmel cinnamon sugar rim,

candy corn and

no mosquitos.

That’s all I got.  I just finished a whole bag of candy corn in mourning.  I wish I was kidding…..

Eddie, I have your mug.

My birthday is July 1st so I’ve had a few red, white and blue themed birthday parties in my day.  As a result, I love red, white and blue and the 4th of July and anything patriotic.  I was in one of my favorite thrift shops and I found this fabulous eagle mug.

DSCF4329Its patriotic cool factor is off the charts.  The eagle looks like those perched atop the flagpoles.  It’s handmade.  It’s fabulous and in mint condition.  Why isn’t coffee being poured into it every morning? Or beer every night?  What happened that this treasure would find it’s way to a thrift shop?

Happy Birthday Eddie 1974 Annette is clearly written on the bottom.

DSCF4331

Instantly a story forms.  Eddie was Annette’s first love.  Eddie couldn’t part with the mug when the relationship went south.  Literally.  Annette must have moved away.  Somewhere warm.  Something kept him here but he hung on to that mug until his wife found it.  Yes, he married someone else but never forgot about Annette.  Eventually his wife kept feeling there was someone else lingering and found the mug hidden on the top shelf of a kitchen cupboard.  She insisted he get rid of it.  Immediately.  Sadly, he did.

So Eddie, if you got rid of the wrong thing (your mug instead of your angry wife) and now want your mug back, message me.  I have it for you.  And Annette, if you find me first and want to crack Eddie over the head with it, I’m all for it.

Celebrate the day!  Let Scarlett Dalila show you the way.

POTD: Summer Highlights

The hazy days of summer are over.  Two months are just not enough time.  We savored every minute.  We packed in a lot.  We gave all we had to summer.  Here’s to long days and warm nights, shorts, flip-flops and painted toe nails, traveling and waking up without an alarm.  Here’s to high tide and low tide, sun-kissed cheeks and umbrellas in our drinks.  Here’s to the hazy days of summer.

From me to my sister:

POTD: May Highlights

We are well into June but here they are.  The best May had to offer…

May brought the transition from warm to hot and then warm again, green to blazingly colorful, and more baseball, baseball, baseball. (Although I’ve spared you from any more baseball pictures.)

Living in the city, but it feels like the suburbs. Yet, I still don’t have enough room on my balcony….

We live in Boston, but not downtown so it feels like the suburbs.  However, we have a narrow balcony as if we lived downtown.  What’s a girl to do with her plants and wineglass? Problem solved:

When planting your flowerpots, leave room for a tile where you can then put your drink!  I got these round tiles at my local thrift shop. There are some beautiful ones on etsy if you have money to spend.  I leveled the dirt and then just set the tile on top.  Now I can enjoy my plants AND a drink on the balcony.  Celebrate the day!
